"Where does inspiration for creativity come from?"
I do believe inspiration always come into your mind at your least expectation especially when you are craving something new for your work/ assignment. It might be the time when you're having your maggie goreng or when you're showering, walking or even dreaming. So do I. But to get all these happen, you have to understand and knowledge about the particular item that you want, then only you are able to relate and think out of the box.
To be honest, our creativity has been limited since young. Those days, we're taught to colour the plant in green, sky in blue, hair in black etc. We do not have chance to explore and experiment new things and at the end of the day, we learned to be uncreative. But it is not a bad thing to me. Why?
Question
If you are given a piece of A4 paper to draw anything you like based on your creativity.
What will you draw? Why you draw that? Where's the idea come from?
So do creativity always come with a reason why...?
To me, I think creativity comes from constraints. As I said earlier, our thought is limited since young. There is a boundary for us to think out of the box. Therefore, it is just like holding a pen to link from a point (constraint) to another point (new idea). If without a boundary perhaps I will not know where to start from. It is a leading point to cross over. Do you agree?

So today, we as a creative industry student, have to train ourselves to become a creative person. I think creativity is something to do in our brain which called as imagination. Lets start with it! Try to connect something seems unconnected together; try to create something without follow the rules and logics and you will be surprised that it will be your master piece.
Looking forward to this discussion on Tuesday.
Creativity comes from constraints. -- a truly profound and true statement!!
ReplyDeleteNow the next logical question is this: when given full freedom, does that mean creativity will be diminished?
What are the limits of the constraints we need in order to create? Can too many constraints also prevent full creativity?
Now chew on that :)
