the LIMIT

6th Lecture and Tutorial 14 July 2015

WHat's the liMit of arTIstic frEEDom?
What'S the limitS of multiCULturalism?
CAn't wE have MULTI national language?
dO we nEED national LanGUage?
to what Extend can wE have multilanguage?
questioning the TRANSLATION for language?
complain in different language GET different TREAT?
n wHY am I doinG all tHis is for EXperimeNT purpose.

Well, I was trying to play the 'capslk' and highlight and it forms a heart shape. (a failed heart shape)
This reflect to the art of words. It is so disturbing yet creative when you read the lines. I stop to do that or else you will not continue to read my post simply because it is just annoying. What I want to bring out is everything has the LIMIT, including arts. Or else, Zi Hao's works won't be banned and M'sia media won't get censored.

This is what I learned- the LIMIT.

Same opinion with Chok. I was shocked when Zi Hao mentioned about the language "English and Bahasa" makes so much differences in political discourse. Is like what the...? Same content but just in different language only weiyh. I am really amazed language has such power.
To argue Chok's post :
Sesungguhnya, garisan diantara kebebasan bersuara dan ucapan kebencian adalah amat halus sekali, kita harus sentiasa memastikan ucapan kita bersifat munasabah dan sopan untuk menjaga perasaan khalayak ramai.

With the statement above, I wonder how much can we "JAGA perasaan orang lain" and to what extend can we jaga? jaga forever? tolerate forever? And what if orang lain don't even care of us? Will you still care of them? My opinion is...we have our own freedom to speak. So why should we care about the sifat munasabah? If you are not satisfy with it, just voice out. But if you are not, I would say that you already put the limit there unconsciously. Not to say this is good or bad, but another way to say is "there is no freedom of speech".

Actually it is same when we have the setting in the class.
We have our right to speak. We can choose to answer or not to answer questions.
We have our right to speak. We can voice out our opinion every time.
We have our right to speak. We can stand up and point at the lecturer says, " I don't like the way you teach. You are sxxxs."
Wow! Can you imagine IF this incident happen in our class? I study from kindergarten until now, 16 years...to be honest, I never experience this before. So basically, we all know our limit. I would say even sometime we don't like the things or objects, we will not show it obviously but try to camourflage. Haha! Anyway rule is rule.

If you are daring and curious enough like Zi Hao, actually you can try to experiment it which I think all of us won't do I guess. To conclude this, I remain my stand as everyone has their own level of limit. Different thought, different judgement.

Personally, I think every artist has their own characteristic. Can't say it's weird but don't know how to describe in a proper word. Perhaps special? He too. A man who overcurious. And this is why make him so creative. Remember the question "Where does the inspiration for creativity come from?" I guess Zi Hao will be one of a very good example.

He makes me think of as a young adult, should we really cross the line and do something weird too? Hmm...we can think about it.

Tutorial TIME! I like the screening of " The Rising Sun" compare to another one. Both are the story about the old time when Japanese came Malaya. One is broadcasted by History Channel in a documentary, interview style whereas another one is more modern style play with graphic and editing. Again we talked about the formal and contextual.

Formal analysis
1. description (historically)
2 .analyse ( chromatic/vibrant)
3. interpret ( why)
4. judgement

Contextual analysis
more deep and consider what's around.
Eg, WHY the bicycle under water, demon mask, female in red etc

Think think think.

Anyway, Happy Raya and Holidays peeps ;)

Malaysian Art

5th Lecture and Tutorial 7 July 2015

Dance. Is not just about the steps, the formation but is about using the body movement within a space to tell the story. This definition is like WOW! Totally agree with it. Art is just that beautiful.
Recall back to the short movie of Chilayu...Melayu....Malay....Chinese....Cina....DLL....Indian...
I was pretty amazed after Dr Carmen actually explained the composition in the show then only realized the power of art. Ok...perhaps I'm not contextual enough to understand it in prompt.
In dance, movement and expression will be our common vocabulary as formal.
Likewise, contextual tells story content based on cultural or artistic.

Somehow, we have racial bogotry, xenophobia and racial prejudice to certain people. This is actually come from our personal; suppose not to act on it or show it out.
So...
We cannot say that it is racism until we institutionalized racism which means government organization or etc giving negative treatment to a group of people based on their race. So-ya!
(Correct me if I'm wrong)

What event is so significant that Malaysia artist should feature in their artwork?
Basically, I have no idea. Perhaps something like what Zunar did will be fine? So daring yet so true.
But it must be having historical sign which is value for future la.

Is there the responsibility of Malaysia artist to create Malaysia artwork?
Yes it is because even what Marion D'cruz and Ramli Ibrahim do are still practicing Malaysian artwork. They are very much confidence and understand their own culture before stepping out from it. So when globalization allows culture to flow free through national barriers, Malaysian art is still surviving. But if we don't take this responsibility, who will?
